Practical solar knowledge

Separate an expense from a replacement reserve.

Cleaning and servicing paid during the year are cash expenses. Money set aside for future replacements is a reserve. Both belong in a household budget, but they describe different things.

Illustrative annual budget

Six cleaning visits at ₹600, plus ₹2,000 servicing and ₹500 consumables, total ₹6,100 in cash expenses. A ₹1,500 reserve brings the planning budget to ₹7,600, or approximately ₹633.33 per month. The visit count and prices are sample inputs, not a recommended schedule or a local quotation.

Build your own scope

Ask whether access equipment, water, travel, consumables and reporting are included. Check the commissioning contract for any existing comprehensive maintenance coverage. Set the reserve using equipment age and documented replacement assumptions rather than a universal percentage.

How the estimate works.

Annual cash expense = cleaning visits × price per visit + servicing + consumables. Total budget = annual cash expense + replacement reserve. Monthly budget = total budget ÷ 12.

The sample costs and visit count are illustrative entries, not market quotations or a maintenance recommendation. Costs vary with access, location, equipment, and the service scope.
