Practical solar knowledge

From monthly units to a planning size.

The calculation multiplies monthly consumption by 12, then divides the annual target by 365 days and your chosen daily net yield. With 300 kWh/month and an illustrative yield of 4 kWh/kWp/day, the energy-based result is approximately 2.47 kWp. At 550 W per module, rounding upward gives five modules, or 2.75 kWp. At the same illustrative yield, those modules model 4,015 kWh/year against a 3,600 kWh annual target.

A module count is not an installation design. Real roof layout, shading, setbacks, structural capacity, sanctioned load and inverter compatibility can change the practical size. Seasonal generation and the time you use electricity also matter.

Take these questions to a site survey

  • Which roof areas remain unshaded across the year?
  • How were generation losses and local weather modelled?
  • What DC panel capacity and AC inverter capacity are proposed?
  • How will safe maintenance access be preserved?

How the estimate works.

Annual target = monthly consumption × 12 × coverage percentage. Estimated kWp = annual target ÷ (365 × net daily yield). Module count is rounded up to the next whole module. This tool matches annual energy, not peak demand or backup needs.

A qualified installer must assess roof suitability, shading, structure, electrical limits, and local connection requirements. The default yield is an illustrative input, not an India-wide benchmark.
