What simple payback can tell you.
Simple payback divides the net capital amount you choose by annual net savings. For example, ₹1,80,000 divided by ₹25,470 gives approximately 7.07 years. It is a comparison tool rather than a date on which an installation is guaranteed to have paid for itself.
Choose consistent inputs
If you subtract an approved subsidy from capital cost, label the result clearly and consider when the money will actually arrive. Annual savings should already allow for the operating expenses you include. Do not subtract the same expense twice.
Look beyond one number
Compare a conservative and an optimistic scenario. Simple payback does not fully represent loan interest, degradation, inverter replacement, tariff changes, taxes or the time value of money. A complete investment appraisal requires those additional cash flows.
How the estimate works.
Net upfront cost = installed cost − confirmed subsidy. Annual net saving = gross annual savings − annual operating cost. Simple payback = net upfront cost ÷ annual net saving. Net cash position after N years = annual net saving × N − net upfront cost.
This simple cash-flow estimate excludes financing, time value of money, degradation, changing tariffs, tax effects, and later equipment replacement. No subsidy eligibility is inferred.
